The Vision Behind Legacy Rising
Updated: Apr 14
The Legacy Rising program stands as a beacon of hope and transformation. It addresses the pressing needs of individuals facing financial challenges. The nonprofit was built from my own struggle. Before I taught financial literacy or mentorship, I was the one trying to figure everything out on my own. As a young business owner, I worked multiple jobs just to afford mentorship and guidance. I knew I had potential, but I didn’t have access. I didn’t have people around me who could show me how money really works or how to move forward with clarity. And I realized something in that process—there are so many people just like me who never get that opportunity at all.
That’s where my mission comes from. I created my nonprofit, Legacy Rising, to give young adults access to the knowledge, mentorship, and support that I had to fight so hard to get. The program offers a free financial literacy course including topics such as personal development, understanding taxes, creating a budget, building your credit, and establishing a business plan. After completing the 14-day financial literacy course, we provide mentorship about how to turn their business and personal goals into reality. Financial literacy isn’t just about numbers—it’s about confidence, decision-making, and believing you can build a different future.
Purpose of the Legacy Rising Program
The core purpose of the Legacy Rising program is to break cycles of poverty and limited opportunity. It does so by providing structured support and resources. The program focuses on three pillars:
Mentorship: Connecting mentees with experienced guides.
Education: Offering access to knowledge and skills.
Opportunities: Creating pathways to employment and growth.
Each pillar is essential. Mentorship builds confidence and guidance. Education equips mentees with tools for success. Opportunities open doors to real-world experiences and careers.
Mentorship
Mentorship is the foundation of the program. It pairs mentees with mentors who understand their challenges. These mentors provide advice, encouragement, and accountability. The relationship fosters personal and professional growth. For example, a mentee interested in technology might be paired with a mentor working in IT. This connection helps the mentee navigate career choices and develop relevant skills.
Education
Education within the program is practical and accessible. It includes workshops, online courses, and hands-on training. Topics range from financial literacy to technical skills. The goal is to prepare mentees for the workforce and independent living. For instance, a workshop on budgeting teaches how to manage income and expenses effectively. This knowledge is crucial for long-term stability.
Opportunities
The program actively seeks opportunities for mentees. These include internships, job placements, and scholarships. By partnering with local businesses and organizations, the program creates real-world connections. A mentee might secure an internship at a company that values diversity and inclusion. This experience builds a resume and opens doors for future employment.

Structure of the Legacy Rising Program
The Legacy Rising program follows a clear and organized structure. It ensures that every participant receives personalized support. The program is divided into phases:
Assessment: Understanding the mentee’s background and needs.
Matching: Pairing mentees with suitable mentors.
Development: Providing education and skill-building activities.
Placement: Connecting mentees with opportunities.
Follow-up: Monitoring progress and offering ongoing support.
Each phase is designed to build on the previous one. This approach maximizes the chances of success. For example, the assessment phase identifies barriers such as lack of transportation or childcare. The program then addresses these issues to remove obstacles.

How to Get Involved
Supporters and potential mentees can get involved in several ways. The program welcomes donors who want to contribute financially or through resources. Volunteers can serve as mentors or assist with educational events. Mentees can apply to join the program by meeting basic eligibility criteria.
For Donors
Donors play a critical role. Their contributions fund scholarships, workshops, and operational costs. Donors receive regular updates on program outcomes and success stories. This transparency builds trust and encourages continued support.
For Mentors
Mentors commit time and expertise. They undergo training to understand the needs of mentees. Mentors provide guidance, share experiences, and help mentees set goals. This role is rewarding and impactful.
For Mentees
Mentees must demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow. The application process includes an interview and assessment. Once accepted, mentees receive a personalized plan. They engage in mentorship, education, and opportunity activities.
Future Goals and Expansion
The vision behind the Legacy Rising program includes growth and sustainability. Plans are in place to expand the program’s reach to more communities. This expansion will involve:
Increasing partnerships with local businesses.
Enhancing online educational resources.
Developing new mentorship models tailored to specific industries.
The program aims to become a model for similar initiatives nationwide. By continuously improving, it will serve more individuals and create stronger legacies.
The vision behind the legacy rising program is clear. It is a commitment to transforming lives through structured support and opportunity. By focusing on mentorship, education, and real-world connections, the program builds a foundation for lasting success. This approach empowers individuals to overcome financial challenges and create a better future.
